What's more, you'll need little time, money, or experience to craft the projects, although they'll look as if you did.
From papers and ephemera to embossing powders and markers, there are many wonderful materials and supplies that you can use. Learn the basics for creating a blank card and then move on to decorating them.
Some of the most charming aspects of handmade cards are elements such as windows and pop-ups. Cut out circular windows that reveal dried flowers underneath, for example, or add whimsical cows to a three-dimensional barnyard scene.
There are many inventive papers that can make an intriguing background for a design. On one project, you'll use woven papers, chopstick wrappers, and Oriental newsprint. On another, both the foundation of the card and decorative marquetry inlays will be fashioned from corrugated cardboard.
Not all cards need to be squares or rectangles. Try one that's triangular! Its shape isn't the only surprise: this card includes seeds and directions for planting them. Make a translucent paper vellum envelope to allow a glimpse of the contents to show through.
While most cards are constructed from paper, you can make them from other materials. Why not use a CD instead, altering it with a funky collage of images and cutout letters? The plastic container will make an unusual envelope.
